Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the number one streamed track in just 6 months. It was a mix of reggaeton and pop music did not only bring attention for reggaeton, it also attracted attention to Latin music generally. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs in 2016 compared to two songs in the year 2015. In the height of Despacito's chart-topping success in 2017, 19 tracks primarily written in Spanish hit into the Top 100. It climbed to 41 by 2020. Justin Bieber's bilingual version of Despacito was released in 2017. Soon after, popular artists began working with reggaeton performers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018), and Madonna worked with Maluma on Medellin. A few performers of reggaeton lamented the trend towards mainstream music in the year 2020. But a new group, Rauw alejandro, was looking to change things up. His style often included elements of electronic dance music in addition to other styles.
